Fellow pilots,
Last week, your MEC attended the ALPA Canada Board meeting in Ottawa for two days. It was an opportunity to sit with the union leadership of other carriers to share and discuss successes and issues facing pilots across Canada.
A key topic discussed was working and leveraging the International Federation of Airline Pilots' Associations (IFALPA), which ALPA is a key board member of, to push back against manufacturers trying to sell the idea of automating the cockpit to have 1 pilot.
The group also voted on and approved ALPA Canada's strategic plan, which serves as a template to guide its leadership over the next five years.
We also heard different committee reports such as:
- Government Affairs
- Safety
- Aeromedicine
- Representation
And many more.
We learned of all the programs offered by Alpa via its website. Including:
- Pilots for Pilots (P4P): P4P is a charitable organization that assists ALPA pilots and their dependents in covering immediate and extraordinary expenses following widespread catastrophic events (e.g., flooding).
- Pilot Peer Support: Call today: 309-PPS-ALPA (309-777-2572)
Don't let stress affect your livelihood! Talk to a PPS colleague before these concerns threaten your medical certificate, career, and life. Colleagues are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This service has been available in French for a few months now!
- Pilot Assistance: ALPA Pilot Assistance offers confidential advice and assistance to pilots experiencing difficulties in any professional or personal life that may affect their professional performance or professionalism.
- Orange Card: In the event of an incident/accident, this should be the first call you make. They'll guide you through the next steps and what to say/not to say so as not to incriminate yourself.
You can download the ALPA app to your cell phone, where you will find all the information on services provided, including Pilot Peer Support, Pilot Assistance, the Orange Card, and much more!
In the event of a medical problem, ALPA has an agreement with a doctor via the website www.pilotmd.ca (click on the link: Alpa Canada member consultation).
- To answer questions or help you fill out the right forms to find your medical (it can save you a lot of back and forth with TC).
- 100% ALPA paid service
- appointments are made by video call for a maximum of 30 minutes each, but there is no limit to the number of appointments in a year.
With regards to the negotiatons we 'll keep you posted in the coming weeks on the progresss.
